■ AI for a better world
About Us – WeSort.AI
We are turning waste into Europe’s most important source of raw materials.
Every day, we burn valuable resources, while Europe spends billions importing critical raw materials from overseas. We’re changing that equation. We use artificial intelligence (AI) to recover critical raw materials (CRM) from waste—for a truly circular economy, greater independence, and a sustainable future.
Safer. Smarter. Circular.
The status quo: We are burning our future
The global volume of waste is skyrocketing. Worldwide, 3.5 million tons of waste are produced every day—a figure that is expected to rise by another 70% by 2050.
But the real problem lies in how we handle it: Over 60% of our valuable resources still end up being incinerated today. At the same time, European industry is heavily dependent on imports. We pay billions to source critical raw materials such as lithium, cobalt, and copper from Asia and other parts of the world, often under questionable environmental and social conditions.
This situation is neither sustainable nor economically viable. Yet the solution lies right on our doorstep: in our waste.

Our vision: A world without waste
The future begins when we start seeing waste as a valuable resource. We transform what is discarded into the raw materials of tomorrow—for a Europe that is self-sufficient, thinks in terms of circularity, and leaves future generations an intact, rich environment.
“We simply can no longer afford to burn our planet’s most valuable raw materials. With WeSort.AI, we’re providing the waste management industry with the missing technological piece of the puzzle to turn today’s problem into tomorrow’s urgently needed resources.”
Nathanael & Johannes Laier, founders of WeSort.AI

Our mission: Closing the loop with AI
Our mission is to empower the waste management industry to realize the full potential of its material streams. To achieve this, we combine X-ray and camera images with AI. This allows us to sort waste not just superficially, but to identify specific objects and their composition at the deepest level.
This intelligent sorting offers two key advantages: On the one hand, we protect facilities from fires and machinery damage by reliably detecting hazardous contaminants such as batteries. On the other hand, we advance the circular economy: By specifically sorting out electronic devices, we make hidden critical raw materials accessible and thereby strengthen Europe’s raw material sovereignty.
Who we are: Deep tech from Wuerzburg
We are a young, dynamic team of 15 people. When we launched in Würzburg in 2022, we were driven by a single conviction: we no longer wanted to stand by and watch our most valuable resources end up in incinerators. Today, we’re channeling our passion for deep tech to prevent exactly that.
The fact that this Würzburg-based idea quickly grew into a real movement is demonstrated not least by our winning the German Founders Award in 2024. We’re growing rapidly—and we’re just getting started.
